How do I deal with freezing?

  • Use motor and sensory cues
  • Rely on visual, verbal or auditory prompts
  • Wear knee and wrist protectors to prevent injury

How do I deal with postural instability?

  • Make sure your feet are positioned directly under your body
  • When turning, take a wide arc instead of pivoting on the spot
  • Use a rollator, walking stick or other mobility aids

How do I deal with sleep disturbances?

  • Get plenty of physical activity, avoid caffeine, nicotine and alcohol, and try not to drink too much after 5 p.m.
  • Relax before bedtime; set a regular sleep schedule, sleep until sunrise, and avoid lying awake in bed.
  • Make sure your bedroom is at a comfortable temperature and that water, turning aids, the toilet and your alarm clock are within easy reach.
