Organisation
ParkinsonFonds is fully committed to finding a solution for Parkinson’s disease. This is our ultimate goal. To achieve it, we fund vital research by leading medical professionals and scientists, and we provide information about Parkinson’s and its impact through our newsletters, website, mailings and brochures.
Our organisation is led by our director, Mr A.J. (Lex) Knobben, whose responsibilities include overseeing the foundation in the broadest sense of the word.
The Team
The team at the ParkinsonFonds Foundation consists of a small, dedicated group of enthusiastic staff. We are wholeheartedly committed to our mission: reducing the impact of Parkinson’s disease and improving the quality of life for those affected.
Every day, we work hard to raise funds, increase awareness, and support valuable projects. We believe in the power of collaboration and work together with various partners to ensure that all funds raised are used effectively and efficiently.

The Supervisory Board
We are supported by our Supervisory Board, consisting of Gidy Koopmans, Willem Smeets, and Merko Tigelaar, who all joined on 1 January 2024. Our Supervisory Board members serve on a voluntary basis and receive no remuneration for their work. They play a crucial role in monitoring and advising the board, helping us pursue our mission as effectively as possible.
The Scientific Advisory Board
We also have a Scientific Advisory Board (SAB), made up of leading professors including Prof. Dr Eleonora Aronica, Prof. Dr Rob de Bie, Prof. Dr Kerensa Broersen, Prof. Dr Vincenzo Bonifati, Prof. Dr Amalia Dolga, and Prof. Dr Nico Leenders. Their expertise is essential in guiding our research strategy and ensuring the quality and relevance of the projects we fund.

Together, we strive to discover the cause of Parkinson’s disease through thorough and high-quality research. Despite the significant progress already made, we are fully aware that there is still a long way to go. Research into Parkinson’s is costly and time-consuming, but given the rising prevalence of the disease, it is more necessary than ever. Through joint efforts and dedication, we remain committed to our mission, now and in the future.
